Different lasers for different pigment
Pico lasers deliver very short pulses that shatter pigment particles and are commonly used for sun spots and general toning. ADVATx and Excel V are vascular lasers that target redness and visible vessels, and some forms of pigmentation linked to them. Many clinics combine wavelengths, because melasma and mixed pigmentation rarely respond to a single approach.
Melasma needs a careful approach
Melasma is hormone- and sun-sensitive, and aggressive laser settings can make it worse — a rebound called post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH). Experienced dermatologists often start gently, sometimes combining low-energy laser with prescription creams or oral medication. Be cautious of any clinic promising to remove melasma completely.
Aftercare decides half the result
Sun protection is the most important part of pigmentation treatment: daily high-SPF sunscreen, hats, and avoiding strong sun for weeks after sessions. Without it, pigment returns. Ask the clinic for a written aftercare plan, and plan laser courses so you are not heading straight into a beach holiday.
